Downtown’s treasure trove of Shreveport history, the Spring Street Museum, is once again open! Regular hours are Tuesday- Saturday, 10am- 4pm.
The small museum has an oversized collection of items ranging from the founding of Shreve Town, and later Shreveport, to the present. Interactive displays allow you to scroll through photos and hear accounts of a range of topics and the upstairs ‘parlor’ gives the feel of life in the 1890s. Changing exhibits feature items found throughout the city – from Civil War items to rare bottles to items from the great Yellow Fever epidemic in 1873.
If you ask nicely, curator Marty Loschen will show you some of the treasures in the century+-year -old basement, and don’t forget to take a selfie in the original bank vault! The museum is free to attend.
